After hours care and locations

If your child has a serious medical need and the doctor’s office is closed, call your doctor. An answering system may take your call and someone will advise you on what to do next. You can also visit an urgent care center or after-hours facility.

You can also call our 24-Hour Nurse HelpLine at 1-855-712-6700. Our nurses are ready to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

You do not need to make an appointment for this. These providers do not have to be your primary care provider (PCP).

REMEMBER: ALWAYS CALL 9-1-1 for immediate life-or-death situations.

Emergency care

When your child needs emergency care, Dell Children’s Health Plan covers care at any emergency room in the United States. Your child is covered for emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, take your child to the nearest emergency room for help.

Emergencies include:

  • Bleeding that will not stop
  • Broken bones
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Chest pain
  • Drug overdose
  • Poisoning
  • Trouble breathing

You may have to pay if you go to the emergency room for a condition that is not life-threatening.

Urgent care

Many illnesses do not need to be treated in the emergency room. If you are unsure if you should seek urgent care, call your child’s PCP for guidance or to schedule an appointment. You can also call Dell Children’s Health Plan’s 24-Hour Nurse Advice Line at 1-855-712-6700. Our nurses are ready to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
