Whether you need a doctor, urgent care, a specialist, the 24-hour Nurse Helpline or a visit to the emergency room, Dell Children’s Health Plan can help you and your child find the right care.

When to turn to your doctor
When it is not an emergency, your doctor should be your first choice. Make an appointment and talk to the doctor about you or your child’s minor illness or injury:
- Sore throat
- Ear pain
- Fussy baby
- Fever
- Vomiting
- Diarrhea
- Stomach pain

When to go to urgent care or after-hours clinic
When your doctor’s office is closed, urgent care is a convenient option:
- Allergic reaction
- Minor burns
- Sprains
- Cuts requiring stitches
- Skin conditions
- Nausea and vomiting
- Mild asthma

When to go to a specialty care doctor
Dell Children’s Health Plan has specialists who meet the medical specialty needs of members. Some of these specialists include:
- Mental health specialist
- Skin specialist
- Heart specialist
- Eye doctor
- Foot doctor

When to call the 24-hour Nurse Helpline at 1-855-712-6700 (TTY 7-1-1)
You can talk to a nurse for advice or for your health care questions anytime. It is available to all Dell Children’s Health Plan members 24 hours a day, seven days a week:
- How to treat a cold
- When to go to the emergency room
- What to do with a sick child

When to go to the emergency room
The emergency room is for medical emergencies only. If you have an emergency, you should call 9-1-1 or go to the nearest emergency room right away:
- Chest pain
- Head or eye injury
- Broken bones
- Poisoning or overdose
- Shortness of breath
- Uncontrollable bleeding
- Seizure
If you or your child have a serious medical need and the doctor’s office is closed, call your doctor. An answering system will take your call and someone will advise you on what to do next.
You can also call our 24-Hour Nurse HelpLine at 1-855-712-6700 (TTY 7-1-1). Our nurses are ready to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
You do not need to make an appointment for this. These providers do not have to be your primary care provider (PCP).
REMEMBER: ALWAYS CALL 9-1-1 for immediate life-or-death situations.
Many illnesses do not need to be treated in the emergency room. If you are unsure if you should seek urgent care, call your or your child’s PCP for guidance or to schedule an appointment. You can also call Dell Children’s Health Plan’s 24-Hour Nurse Advice Line at 1-855-712-6700 (TTY 7-1-1). Our nurses are ready to help you 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Dell Children’s Health Plan covers urgent and emergency care when you or your child have a sudden illness or injury anywhere in the United States. Health care services received outside the United States are not covered.
Urgent care centers
When your doctor’s office is closed, going to a Dell Children’s Health Plan pediatric urgent care is a convenient option.
You can get care for fevers, cuts requiring stitches, nausea and vomiting, minor burns and much more. They also have staff to specifically treat children. And the waiting rooms and exam rooms are designed to be comforting for kids.
At Dell Children’s Health Plan, we are always adding to our network of doctors. You now have access to pediatric urgent care centers in your area.
All of these pediatric urgent care centers take Dell Children’s Health Plan. You don’t need a referral or an appointment.
Pediatric urgent care centers
When you or your child need emergency care, Dell Children’s Health Plan covers care at any emergency room in the United States. You and your child are covered for emergency care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In an emergency, go to the nearest emergency room for help.
Emergencies include:
- Bleeding that will not stop
- Broken bones
- Loss of consciousness
- Chest pain
- Drug overdose
- Poisoning
- Trouble breathing
